Routledge Journals is pleased to announce a Special Issue from Souls: A Critical Journal of Black Politics, Culture, and Society, focusing on “Neoliberalism and Cultural Politics in Dubai and Brazil.” This issue includes a paper by João H. Costa Vargas on contemporary black experiences in Brazil as reflected by police/military operations in the favela communities of Rio de Janeiro and their popular representation, especially timely as Rio prepares to host World Cup events in 2014 and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
