Telefonica and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd today announced a partnership agreement to include Samsung KNOX in Telefonica’s portfolio of security services for enterprises. Telefónica will become an authorised reseller of Samsung KNOX licenses to public sector and enterprise customers around the globe.
The agreement will combine the expertise of Telefónica, in communication services and digital services, and Samsung, in cutting edge technology and a secure Android Platform, to provide a comprehensive mobile solution for work and play to organisations and their employees.
The agreement’s announcement follows the launch of KNOX 2.0 at Mobile World Congress in February 2014. The evolution of KNOX will enable employees to easily separate their work and personal lives on their mobile devices, while giving organisations enhanced security at all levels of the Android platform.
Telefónica’s enterprise customers will be able to enjoy the productivity benefits of using a ‘work phone’ wherever they are, without having to carry two separate devices. They will be able to create separate personal and work environments on their devices with encrypted work data protected by password and fingerprint verification.
The enhanced security capabilities of KNOX will be available to Telefonica’s enterprise customers on a wide range of the latest Samsung devices such as Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
“This agreement reflects Telefónica’s commitment to provide innovative security solutions to its customers. With KNOX, we are now in a position to bring the best mobile security solution for our enterprise, MNC and Public Administration customers who are using Samsung´s devices”, says Oliver Martínez, Director of Security and eHealth services at Telefónica.
Rob Orr, Vice President of Enterprise Sales at Samsung Mobile Europe, said: “We are delighted to be working with Telefonica to offer secure mobile solutions to public sector and enterprise customers around the world. We are seeing a requirement in the market to combat security challenges and look forward to working with Telefonica to respond to the increasing convergence between consumer and enterprise technology.”
Samsung KNOX was introduced in 2013 as an enterprise-ready secure Android platform powering new Samsung Galaxy branded devices in the market. KNOX is designed from the ground up to systematically fortify Android by leveraging the hardware to provide the level of security required by customers. KNOX resolves the two major enterprise mobility concerns for customers–security and manageability – in addition to addressing the ability to seamlessly separate work and play.
