Madrid, 16 September 2014.- Telefónica and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today signed a collaboration agreement for various common interest initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The purpose of the agreement is to create a framework for collaboration in areas such as the post-2015 Agenda, which will replace the UN's current Millennium Development Goals, support for the development of young people's skills in Latin America (entrepreneurship, use of ICTs, employment, etc.) and social innovation initiatives. The spheres of collaboration include the following projects:
Big Data research and management projects. Exchange of methodologies, platforms and other services for knowledge management developed by the UNDP or Telefónica. Organisation of events, with the participation of members of the UNDP and its network of experts, activities and events organised by Telefónica, such as the launch and dissemination of the Latam Millennials Survey, which will gauge the concerns of the so-called millennium generation, from this October. Exchange of knowledge and participation in associations and institutions. Collaboration on the dissemination and strategy of communication and social awareness campaigns in Latin America. Publication and exchange of 'best practices' of programmes and initiatives at regional, national and local level. The agreement will have an initial duration of three years and was signed this morning at the Telefónica headquarters in Madrid by Carlos López Blanco, Telefónica's Global Head of Public and Regulatory Affairs, and Jessica Faieta, UN General Undersecretary and Director of the UNDP for Latin America and the Caribbean.
